“Making the decision to have a child – it’s momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” -Elizabeth Stone
Maybe it’s because I’m so close to having a baby myself, or because I recently moved across the country and far away from these nearest and dearest friends, but reading that quote and writing this post has given me blurry vision and a lump in my throat. I was so blessed to witness that incredible “heart go walking around outside your body” transformation in this family. Lindsey, exhausted but determined, labored quietly without a single ounce of medication with Mason at her side. Then, Milo was born and they were changed. Their relationship changed and their life changed and it was obvious that they were over the moon about all of it.
For me to try and describe the joy that filled that room as their sweet baby boy entered it, would definitely do them and the experience a major disservice. I’m not skillful enough with words or experienced enough in life to adequately relay all that I believe it can mean to become a parent. That choice is such a golden and sacred one. Lindsey and Mason, along with every other parent, should be commended on a daily basis for their sacrifices and patience and for their choice to be brave and do their very best in caring for their precious babes. I love birth stories, and I love my clients and friends who trust me enough to photograph theirs.
